Nicole Toomey is the 2021 Bowls New Zealand Summerset Emerging Player of the Year (Female).
Having come through the ranks, winning the Rangatahi Singles in 2012 and being selected to represent New Zealand in age group events, Nicole has been a steady performer at Centre and National level for a number of years.
Already known to New Zealand audiences for a popular win in the televised 'Bowls3Five' league, playing for the Stokes Valley Vipers, her major breakthrough, though, came at the beautifully manicured Carlton Cornwall greens earlier this year.
Nicole won her first open national title in the women's singles and defeated one of the greats of the game, Mandy Boyd (Elmwood Park), in a scintillating final.
In doing so, she continued an incredible record for the Victoria Club in Wellington, with national titles being won out of there every year, by a variety of individuals for the best part of decade!
On top of this national title, Nicole has performed strongly throughout the 2020-2021 season, amongst other things, forming a key part of the Wellington Intercentre team to finish third at the National Intercentre this year.
So, congratulations Nicole, on this recognition of your achievements.
It won't be the last we hear of you.
