Australia’s King Henry has once again reigned supreme at the coveted World Cup Indoor Singles,
claiming an unrivalled sixth crown in front of his home crowd at Warilla.

In an all-Australian final, Henry went up against New South Wales number one David Ferguson, who
had earlier dispatched Malta representative Brendan Aquilina in a straight-sets semi-final victory and
up until his final appearance had remained unbeaten.

With all eyes focused on the centre rink, many were relishing the prospect of reliving the Australian
Indoor Championship final, where Ferguson earnt his berth to this year’s event defeating the former
Irish rep Henry in a cliffhanger of a finish.

Though any hopes of a repeat performance were quickly quashed by “Aussie Jez”, who romped out to
a 12-1 victory in the first set, before withstanding a valiant attempt from Ferguson in the second set to
take the acclaimed victory in straight sets.

The second set presented plenty of excitement for the rinkside crowd and attracted a few thousand
viewers on Facebook Live, though despite Ferguson’s best efforts, Henry proved superior to the task
and moved out to a league of his own as he lifted the silverware aloft for the sixth occasion in his
career.

Meanwhile, Guernsey’s Lucy Beere went one better than last year, turning her silver medal to gold as
she defeated Australian Rebecca Van Asch in a tie-break thriller - cruelly serving Van Asch her only
loss of the tournament.

Beere, who previously prevailed against New Zealand’s Jo Edwards on the final bowl of a tie-break
sudden death end, once again held her nerve, winning the first set, dropping the second and
comfortably claiming five shots to nil in the tie-break to secure her inaugural World Championship
singles title.

While the Kiwi hopes in Val Smith, Edwards and Ali Forsyth will be left pondering what might have
been, the trio can take great heart in their consistent form and hardened match-play preparation
heading into next month’s Commonwealth Games, following a ruthless two weeks of qualifying and
finals play.

With all three negotiating their way through qualifying, Edwards only loss came against eventual
winner Beere, while Forsyth fell on two occasions to the Australian powerhouses in Henry and
Ferguson. Smith also enjoyed a strong run of results and was narrowly pipped at the post by Scottish
representative Kay Moran in the elimination play-off - a promising results chart and two bronze
medals all boding well for the big showdown on the Gold Coast.
