Last weekend, Levin Bowls held its second charity tournament in aid of the Arohanui Hospice.
The hospice has set up a clinic in Levin to meet the needs of clients in the Horowhenua district, and the club saw this opportunity to extend the role the club plays in the local community by supporting the hospice.
In the months leading up to the tournament, club members were active canvassing local businesses and individuals for donations, as well as recruiting teams from local and regional clubs to take part in the mixed fours charity gala.
Thirty-two teams took part in the day of fun with teams coming from aas far as Waverley and Paraparaumu. Fancy dress was encouraged and many teams got in to the spirit of the occasion with the team of Bill Clelland (s) Lynda Orr, Roy Dickson and Lynn Cherry taking out the ‘Best Dressed Team’ prize. Brian Sturzaker made the ‘Best Dressed Person’ a one person race.
Ralda Adams and Peter Anderson kept up a sausage sizzle throughout the day, and after lunch the charity auction was held. Eagerly snapped up items included a weed trimmer, full car service, fully installed top of the range Dual-Band Wi-Fi Access Point, Kerridge Linens, and vouchers for all sorts of products and services.
The Levin Bowls team of Rob Harland, Kaye Lahman, Joe Wnek (skip) and Alick Donald took out the tournament - pictured above (without Alick) with Neville Turnbull, Tournament Committee MC and Louise Curtis, Arohanui Hospice.
A remarkable $11,750 was raised for the Arohanui Hospice. Congratulations Levin Bowls.
