A minor change has been made to the Conditions of Play for the 2023 events, with every game now having a three hour time limit, excepting the QF, SF and final which will have no time limit.

The playing format of the Open Singles, Pairs and Fours will remain the same as they were in 2022.

The format of the Mixed Pairs has been adjusted, section play in 2021 took place in three 16 end games played over one day. This year section play has been extended to six 14 end games and 2 1/4 hours time that will be played over two days, with four wins required to qualify. 14 end games also ensure that four games of post section can be played in one day without the risk of having to complete a game in the dark, as happened the last time this event was held.

Excitingly, Bowls New Zealand has also established an Open Disability category to sit alongside the Open Men's and Open Women's disciplines.

The Open Disability category will replace the B1-B4 and B5-B8 categories played at the 2021 Summerset Nationals in Christchurch; these two categories will continue to be supported with their own Nationals, as part of the Bowls New Zealand Summer of Bowls calendar.

The Open Disability category will be an open gender field providing anyone with a disability that affects their bowling with the opportunity to enter.

Entrants will be asked to identify their disability from a list of qualifying criteria which will include vision, hearing, physical (including the use of a bowling arm) or intellectual impairment.

Eligible to enter the Open Disability events are individuals who have one or more physical or mental disabilities resulting from amputation, arthritis, autism, blindness, burn injury, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, deafness, head injury, heart disease, hemiplegia, hemophilia, respiratory or pulmonary dysfunction, intellectual disability, mental illness, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, musculo-skeletal disorders, neurological disorders (including stroke and epilepsy), paraplegia, quadriplegia, and other spinal cord conditions, sickle cell anemia, specific learning disability, or another disability or combination of disabilities that significantly impact their ability to play the game of bowls.

The Singles event will take place from 2^nd to 5^th January, whilst the Pairs event will take place from the 6^th to 9^th January and will be open to any combination of bowlers with a disability.

How do I enter my pairs partner into the singles?

• Open the Singles entry form, from the list of competitions here
• Select the ‘remove player’ button (looks like a rubbish can), this can be found to the right of the blue “Primary Contact” tag.
• Select the “remove” button
• Select the “Add Player” button
• Select “Someone Else?” from the dropdown menu and click continue
• Click the blue “Link Member” button.
• Search the membership number of the player you are trying to enter and select their profile.
• Continue the entry as normal.

How do I update players if my team changes?

BowlsHub allows you to manage your entry after entering, to do this, navigate to the Competitions tab and select “Entered”.

• Find the entry you wish to manage
• Select the spanner icon under the actions heading
• Click “View Entry”
• Under the players section select the “Pencil” icon
• You can then remove the desired player and add a new one.
• Once done click “Save” and “Back”
• You can then update your “Team Name” by selecting the “pencil icon”
• Either delete the existing name and your new team name will be automatically generated or manually change the players names.
