Brothers Bowl Together at Nationals
The chance for Bruce Gledhill to play bowls with his brother Kevin at the BLK National Open Championships in Dunedin was an incentive to entice him south from his hometown of Gisborne to play the sport they both enjoy.
Kevin is currently living in Dunedin and playing bowls at the North East Valley Club while he has been a relieving teacher at Otago Boys High School for the past year.
While competing at Nationals the pair played singles in different sections but joined up to play pairs and fours together. Kevin has been the skip of the teams while Bruce has been the lead but neither were too worried about who was the ‘boss’, they just like being able to play together.
Bruce from the Gisborne Bowling Club said they haven’t had as much success as they would have liked, as they are very competitive sports people, but added that the experience of playing in this prestigious event and the time spent in each other’s company has been really worth traveling south for. Unfortunately, the bothers didn’t qualify for post section play in any of the disciplines so Bruce and wife are planning to spend the remainder of their time in the south exploring Dunedin and spending time with family.
Kevin’s home club is the Paritutu Club in New Plymouth but having just completed a year at Otago Boys he is now preparing to head north to Nelson to do a stint at Nelson Boys College and will be looking for a Nelson club to play at for the next 12 months.
