Bowls New Zealand Greenkeepers’ Association North Island Conference to be Facilitated by Thames Valley Greenkeepers.
Whangamata is the gateway to the Paradise Coast and the Coromandel. The world-class surf break and white sand beaches are linked to the main street by a network of walk ways which gives the town a truly beach feel, no wonder it has been voted New Zealand’s number one holiday beach spot. A permanent population just shy of 4000 which, like the surf, swells in summer due to events such as the annual Beach Hop drawing over 120,000 to the region. Sporting facilities range from nine and eighteen hole golf courses, a community swimming pool complex and two lawn bowls clubs, which is where we now turn our attention.
Next month when it is decidedly winter, Bowls New Zealand Greenkeepers’ Association will hold their North Island conference in Whangamata, hosted by the Thames Valley Greenkeepers. The conference is a time for greenkeepers to get together and discuss best practices, industry updates and preparation plans for the upcoming season. So while the weather is not looking tropical and we keep ourselves warm counting down the days until next summer, ‘pour a cuppa’ to those people committed to work year-round making sure that when you take that first step onto the green for another season it is ready to roll.
