The Bowls New Zealand Blackjacks will look back on BPL06 and see that the cut-throat 1-end Tie-Breakers ultimately cost them a spot in the finals of the $100,000 event held at Brisbane's Club Pine Rivers.

After 14 rounds of round robin play from November 14-17 the Blackjacks finished 5th of 8 teams, one win and one spot out of the Finals.

At a glance - Played 14, Won 6, Lost 8 equates to not enough games won. But with the short, sharp, exciting do or die format of the Bowls Premier League where 1 end Tie-Breaks equate to the winning and losing of games, it is this stat that will haunt the Blackjacks - of their 6 matches that went into sudden death the Kiwis only prevailed in 1.

With a slow start on the first two days registering only 2 wins from 8 games, Ali Forsyth, Shannon McIlroy and Jo Edwards rallied on Day 3, clean sweeping all before them and picking up 4 wins from 4 without dropping a set.

With all 3 team members chipping in equally for coach Sharon Sims they put themselves in a position to qualify for the playoffs on Day 4. Requiring 1 win from their 2 scheduled matches, the Brisbane Pirates followed by the Murray Steamers knocked off the Blackjacks, both in Tie-Breaks.

Both the Pirates (with Alex Marshall) and Steamers (with Ryan Bester) finished in the top 4, along with the Sydney Lions and newcomers Illawarra Gorillas who replaced Adelaide Endurance for BPL06.

Led by MVP Aron Sherriff the Sydney Lions defeated the Illawarra Gorillas 10-0, 8-1 in the Grand Final to claim an incredible hat-trick of BPL victories.
