The Bowls New Zealand Midlands Region Casual Bowls Championship was held at Bowls Mount Maunganui on Saturday 6 May 2017. Bowls New Zealand did an excellent job in arranging the weather with the temperatures in the mid 20’s and not a cloud in the sky.

The competitors were their respective club champions for each of their “casual bowls” events.

The teams played in a round robin event with the format of play based on the ‘Bowls Premier League” …i.e. 2 x 5 end sets, power play in each set. Etc. This made for a fast paced, fun games for these bowlers.

The winners were Sel Neil and Wally Stephens from the Tauranga South Club (the two above holding the bowls trophy). They won their 3 games.

The three other teams all recorded 1 win …. so it came down to differential to decide who got the Silver medal ….and the Bowls Mount Maunganui team of Stuart Mitchell and Stephen Bird achieved that.

All clubs are encouraged to run a casual bowls championship for next season which will see this event grow.
