Glen Eden Bowling Club’s Centenary is coming up in 2022.
The Glen Eden Bowling Club is planning a host of activities to celebrate this milestone. The club
welcomes past members and the local community to take part in the celebrations and share their
memories of lawn bowls in Glen Eden.
Glen Eden Bowling Club was established in 1922 with a committee comprising Messers Croucher, Finch,
Kirkpatrick, Porteous, and Waldron. The land for the club grounds was gifted by the George
Hoskings, a local school master, for the princely sum of ten shillings. Ironically the stamp duty
on this transaction was thirty shillings, triple the purchase price.
Over the years the club has served as a home away from home for local residents, and to promote the
sport of bowls.
For their upcoming centenary the club have planned a range of events to celebrate 100 years
including:
• A members’ triples tournament (Saturday 29th January 2022),
• A two-day Open invitation tournament (Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th April 2022) with
$10,000 in prizemoney
•An Afternoon of social bowls for Mates’n’Bowls 3 Five players past, present
and future (Saturday 7th May 2022),
• A meet and greet to catch up with old friends over finger food and photographs from
the club archives (Friday 19th August 2022)
• A Dine and Dance evening with a three-course meal in restaurant setting, including
complimentary wine and a live band. (Saturday 20th August 2022).
The club welcomes expressions of interest from those who would like to attend any of their
celebrations and would love to hear from anyone who has memories, photographs, and other souvenirs
to share related to the proud history of lawn bowls in Glen Eden.
