The annual Trans-Tasman 3 match test series gets underway on Friday & continues to Sunday at the Broadbeach Bowls club on the sunny Queensland Gold Coast.

The Broadbeach club will be the bowls headquarters for the 2018 Commonwealth Games & this test series will be a final trial for the NZ & Australian team.

Both countries are coming of very strong performances at the World Bowls in Christchurch 12 months ago and  will be looking for continued performances from their Men' & Ladies teams

The NZ team has introduced some changes from their World Championship team with the re-call of Paul Girdler, who plays out of the Broadbeach Club on the Gold Coast, and the well performed Tony Grantham.

With Grantham's re-call he will be looking for a strong performance to be selected as part of the NZ Commonwealth Games team.

They will be joined by the current world champions Shannon Mcllroy, Ali Forsyth & Mike Kernaghan

In the NZ Women' team the new selectors Sharon Sims & Peter Belliss have made a couple of changes with the re-call of the 22 year old from the Burnside club in Christchurch Tayla Bruce.

Her selection caps of a great year in 2016 where she was voted the NZ Domestic player of the year.

Also coming back into the side is the 28 year old Mandy Boyd also of the Burnside club who was unavailable for the World Champs due to the birth of her first child.

The selection of Boyd will certainly bring some much needed experience into the side & Boyd will be looking for Gold at the Commonwealth Games to better her Bronze medal at the 2014 games in Glasgow.

The rest of the Women's team is made up of the 3 Australian based players the world No 1 Jo Edwards, Val Smith & the 21 year old Katelyn Inch.

The Australian side is stacked with international talent the Men' team is spearheaded by the gold medal World Pairs champions Brett Wilkie & Aaron Wilson & the Women' team will be led by the current World Champion singles player Karen Murphy.

Also played in conjunction with the test series will be a series between the NZ & Australia Para-sport teams & the NZ & Australia Development teams.
