The first day of the World Champion of Champion Singles kicked off with Dean Elgar having the first game of the day against England’s Simon Green.

The Bowls New Zealand Blackjacks, Para-Sport team, and the talented young athletes that make up the NZ Development team, are gathering in Auckland to make the short journey across the ditch to play the Trans Tasman Test series in Australia specifically, at the Broadbeach Bowling club on the sunny Queensland Gold Coast – home to the upcoming Commonwealth Games Lawn Bowls events.

Two international representatives will join bowls immortality in Australia over the next two weeks when the sport crowns this year’s men’s and women’s world singles champions. A stellar field of fifty-three contenders hailing from thirty-two countries will strive for the ultimate honour at Sydney’s palatial St Johns Park Bowls Club in the 15th World Singles Champion of Champions.

New Zealand’s National Open Championship Winners at Taranaki will be winging their way to Sydney later this week to compete in the World Champion of Champion Singles at St Johns Park, commencing Monday morning. This event is contested annually between bowlers who have won their respective national singles title.

A new guard was elected in at the Bowls NZ AGM held on Saturday. Completing his two year term as President, Mike Spring handed the reins over to Jeanette Sinclair of Carlton Cornwall Bowls in Auckland.
